In his 11 years in the risk finance sector, finding financial solutions to extend the reach and impact of social impact work has not only become a personal motivation for Oliver, it is one he sees investors valuing more too.  Before he moved to SIP, he was with Munich Re, where he worked as an underwriter and developed in-depth experience in several insurance fields - including risk management, risk modelling and risk transfer - providing creative solutions for international brokers and Fortune 500 clients.  Today he also works closely with NGOs, investors, insurers and other social impact stakeholders, and leads SIP in its development of custom-made parametric products designed to improve disaster preparedness, resilience and recovery.

Key Social Impact Work

  • Design of One Cat – an innovative risk-transfer product that provides protection to beaches and coral reefs in Central America if a disaster situation is triggered
  • Development of solutions for governments in developing countries to protect their citizens by covering previously uninsurable expenses 
  • Development of parametric products, One Quake and One Storm 
  • Co-creation of financial mechanisms for the “Green Tech” sector to promote growth of environmentally-friendly renewable energy technologies  
  • Consulting on construction, and risk management, of medical storage warehouses in Zambia
  • Author of study on key measures necessary to establish a widespread adoption of ecosystem-based adaptation mechanisms
